EHR 4318

New Holland EHR 4318 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) controller: Rear Remote No.7 - Neutral Set point

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the controller has detected an issue with the neutral position of the 7th rear electro-hydraulic remote valve. Specifically, the internal spool of the valve is failing to return to its calibrated neutral position, the neutral set point is out of range, or there is no neutral command upon activation. This is most commonly caused by a sticking spool due to hydraulic fluid contamination, mechanical binding, or an uncalibrated valve.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.275
  • New Holland T8.300
  • New Holland T8.330
  • New Holland T8.360
  • New Holland T8.390
  • New Holland T8.410
  • New Holland T8.420
  • New Holland T9.390
  • New Holland T9.450
  • New Holland T9.505
  • New Holland T9.560
  • New Holland T9.615
  • New Holland T9.670

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the condition of the hydraulic fluid and filters for contamination.

  2. Determine if the remote valve stack was recently serviced or replaced, checking for over-torqued tie bolts causing mechanical binding.

  3. Stroke the No.7 remote valve back and forth repeatedly using the cab controls to dislodge any debris preventing the spool from centering.

  4. Check the electrical connector at the Rear Remote No.7 valve for corrosion, pushed pins, or wiring damage.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare the Tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the parking brake, disconnect any implements from the rear remotes, and ensure the hydraulic fluid is at operating temperature.

  2. Attempt Recalibration

Navigate to the EHR remote valve calibration screen using the IntelliView display or instrument cluster HH menu, select Remote No.7, and initiate the calibration to learn the neutral, extend, and retract set points.

  3. Relieve Binding (If Applicable)

If calibration fails and the valve stack was recently assembled, loosen the tie bolts on the remote valve stack and re-torque them strictly to the OEM specification to relieve spool binding, then attempt calibration again.

  4. Replace the Valve

If the valve still fails to find neutral or pass calibration, steam clean the remote control valve assembly area, disconnect the harnesses, remove the base securing bolts, lift the valve stack, and replace the faulty No.7 section.

  5. Program and Calibrate the New Valve

Use the tractor's display or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to assign the correct address (Valve No.7) to the new valve's processor, then perform the EHR valve calibration procedure before connecting an implement.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve Assembly / Proportional Hydraulic Valve Actuator

New valves operate even if uncalibrated, but they must be addressed to their specific stack position (No.7) and calibrated prior to field use to prevent damage or erratic implement behavior.

  • Remote Coupler Valve Assembly
