New Holland EHR 4323 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.7 - Open Center Position Not Reached
Issue description
The internal spool of the #7 rear electro-hydraulic remote valve failed to physically travel to its open center (neutral or float) position when commanded. This condition is typically caused by mechanical binding, debris physically blocking the spool's travel, or a failure of the valve's internal position transducer/actuator.

Check the cause
Cycle the Valve: Stroke the valve back and forth repeatedly using the in-cab controls to clear any debris before assuming the valve is dead.
Check Operating Temperature: Ensure the hydraulic oil is not too cold (below 5°C), as thick oil can cause spool travel delays.
Attempt Calibration: Use the tractor's instrumentation display to view existing calibration values and attempt a spool travel calibration.
Verify CAN Addressing: If the valve was recently serviced, verify that the correct address has been assigned to the #7 remote valve module.
Repair steps
Warm the System
Bring the tractor's hydraulic oil up to normal operating temperature.
Clear Debris
Manually stroke the #7 remote valve back and forth several times to dislodge any potential debris blocking the spool.
Run Calibration
Access the tractor's instrumentation display. Select the #7 remote valve and initiate the automated spool travel calibration. (Note: Never connect an implement to a valve during calibration).
Evaluate Results
If the calibration fails the first time, stroke the valve back and forth again and retry. If the calibration repeatedly fails and the code remains active, the valve spool is mechanically seized or the internal position transducer has failed.
Depressurize and Remove
Shut down the tractor and safely depressurize the hydraulic system. Locate the #7 remote valve on the rear hydraulic stack.
Replace Components
Depending on the severity of the internal failure, replace either the auxiliary coupler cartridge or the entire remote valve assembly.
Reconfigure and Calibrate
Once the new valve or cartridge is installed, assign the correct CAN address to the new module (if the entire electronic valve head was replaced) and perform the EHR remote valve calibration procedure via the display before returning the tractor to service.
