EHR 4331

New Holland EHR 4331 – EHR: Rear Remote No.8 - Checksum Verification Failure

Issue description

This code indicates that the controller has detected a memory or software inconsistency (a checksum mismatch) within the control electronics for the 8th rear remote valve. A checksum error typically points to internal EEPROM corruption, a software glitch, or a hardware failure within the remote valve's integrated electronic control module.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at Rear Remote Valve No. 8 for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent pins

  2. Verify that the remote valve is receiving stable power and ground from the EHR module

  3. Connect the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to attempt clearing the fault code and re-flashing or recalibrating the remote valve

  4. If the code cannot be cleared or immediately returns upon key-on, determine if the internal memory of the valve's electronic actuator has failed (requires module replacement)

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, and turn off the engine. Cycle the remote levers/switches in the cab to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  3. Locate the Valve

Locate Rear Remote Valve No. 8 in the rear hydraulic valve stack.

  4. Disconnect Lines & Wiring

Unplug the electrical harness from the valve's electronic actuator. Mark and disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to this specific valve slice. Cap the lines to prevent contamination.

  5. Remove the Valve Slice

Remove the tie-bolts securing the hydraulic valve stack. Carefully separate the stack and extract the faulty remote valve section.

  6. Install the New Valve

Install the replacement remote valve slice using new O-rings and seals between the sections.

  7. Reassembly

Reinsert and tighten the tie-bolts to the OEM torque specifications to ensure the stack does not leak. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.

  8. Calibration

Reconnect the battery. Top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Connect the New Holland EST laptop and perform a hydraulic valve calibration procedure so the EHR module recognizes the new valve slice.
