New Holland EHR 4342 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Control Module: Rear Remote No.8 - Spool Not in Neutral When Switched On.
Issue description
This fault indicates that when the tractor's electrical system is powered on, the system detects that the hydraulic spool valve for Rear Remote #8 is not in its centered (neutral) position. This is a safety mechanism to prevent unintended hydraulic implement movement upon startup.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- T6 Series
- T7 Series
- T8 Series
- T8.390
- T9 Series
- T9.390 - T9.670
- Magnum Series
- Magnum 235-340
- Maxxum Series
- Steiger
Check the cause
Verify that the in-cab switch, joystick, or lever controlling Remote #8 is physically returning to the neutral position and is not obstructed or sticking.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the Rear Remote #8 valve block at the rear of the tractor for corrosion, moisture, or damaged wires.
Check if the valve spool itself is physically stuck due to hydraulic oil contamination, debris, or thermal shock.
Test the spool position transducer on the valve to see if it is sending an out-of-range or stuck voltage signal to the EHR controller.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the engine and cycle the remote valves to relieve all hydraulic pressure before servicing the valve block.
Address Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged connector or wire at the #8 remote, repair the harness and re-test.
Clean or Replace the Valve/Sensor
If the spool is mechanically binding, remove the EHR valve section. Clean the spool and bore to remove contamination. If scoring is present, the valve section must be replaced. If the position transducer has failed, replace the transducer or the entire remote valve section.
Reassemble and Power On
Reinstall the valve components and reconnect the electrical harness.
Perform Valve Calibration
After replacing an EHR valve, sensor, or controller, you must perform a spool travel calibration by accessing the tractor's display monitor, selecting the specific remote valve, and initiating the automated calibration process so the EHR module can learn the new neutral, extend, and retract positions.
