EHR 4343

New Holland EHR 4343 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller / Armrest Controller (ARU / ATC): Rear Remote No.5 - Lever Not Calibrated

Issue description

The control module does not recognize the physical limits of the lever (joystick/paddle) controlling the 5th rear electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve. Specifically, the controller has lost or never learned the potentiometer voltage values for the lever's neutral, maximum extend, and maximum retract positions.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 series
  • T7 series
  • T8 series
  • T8.xxx series
  • T9 series
  • TG series
  • TG245

Check the cause

  1. Check for Recent Service: Verify if the Armrest Controller or EHR Controller was recently replaced, or if the tractor's software was recently flashed/updated, which wipes the calibration memory.

  2. Check for Accompanying Voltage Faults: Look for other active codes related to the EHR lever potentiometers (e.g., codes indicating an open circuit, short circuit, or 5V reference voltage issues, such as 4185, 4186, or 4187). If present, repair the electrical issue before calibrating.

  3. Inspect the Armrest: Check the physical condition of the No. 5 remote lever in the cab armrest. Ensure it moves freely without binding and springs back to the neutral position on its own.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare the Tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and ensure no implements are connected to the rear remotes.

  2. Enter Calibration Mode

Access the tractor's diagnostic/calibration menu. Depending on the tractor's age, this is done either through the IntelliView display monitor (under the EHR settings/calibration screen) or via the instrument cluster 'H' menus (navigating to the H1 Calibration Mode for EHR valve levers).

  3. Select Lever Calibration

Select the calibration procedure for the Rear Remote Levers.

  4. Perform the Lever Sweep

When prompted by the display, move the No. 5 EHR lever to its Maximum Extend position, then to its Maximum Retract position, and finally release it so it springs back to the Neutral position.

  5. Save and Restart

Save the calibration data as prompted by the screen, turn the key off for 10-20 seconds to let the controllers power down, and turn the tractor back on.

  6. Verify

If the code clears, the repair is complete. If the calibration fails or the values jump erratically during the sweep, the lever's internal potentiometer has failed and the lever assembly must be replaced.
