New Holland ENG 1041 – ENGINE control module (Engine ECU): Engine RPM Over Speed Max / Engine Overrun

The engine speed (RPM) has exceeded the maximum allowable overspeed warning limit. This condition can occur if the engine is mechanically over-revved or if there is a malfunction causing the engine to run past its governed speed.

   Verify operating conditions to determine if the machine was driven in a way that forced the engine to over-rev (e.g., external forces driving the powertrain)

   Inspect the Engine Speed Sensor (crankshaft speed sensor) and its wiring for damage, misalignment, or poor connections

   Check the fuel system for a fuel shutoff valve that is mechanically stuck open, which can cause over-fueling

   Check for secondary throttle or sync codes (such as 1025, 1026, 1030, or 1031) that might indicate a disagreement in operator speed commands

   Observe warning lights

   If the ENG 1041 fault code is accompanied by a red flashing light and an audible alarm, shut the unit down immediately to prevent catastrophic engine damage and contact support.

   Handle yellow/amber light

   If the fault code is associated with a yellow/amber light, record the code number and use the "Aux Override" button to move past the fault code temporarily.

   Inspect and repair engine speed sensor

   Inspect the engine speed sensor and its harness. Repair any broken wires or replace the sensor if it is faulty or mechanically misaligned.

   Inspect and replace fuel shutoff valve

   Inspect the fuel shutoff valve; if it is mechanically stuck open, replace the valve.

   Clear fault codes

   Once the mechanical or sensor issue is resolved, use a diagnostic tool or a CAN-bus DTC Eraser to clear the existing fault codes from the engine ECU so that no records remain and the machine can operate without performance interruptions.
