New Holland ENG 1056 – ENGINE: Timeout of CAN message DPFC1, 5 seconds without message

This fault indicates a communication failure on the machine's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. Specifically, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has not received the expected 'DPFC1' message from the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) controller for a duration of 5 seconds.

   Check the physical CAN bus wiring between the Engine Control Unit (ECU), the Instrument Cluster (IC), and the DPF controller for disconnected, broken, or chafed cables.

   Test the CAN wiring for short circuits to ground or short circuits to battery voltage.

   Inspect the main connector blocks and earth straps for corrosion, moisture ingress, or loose pins.

   Verify the proper connection of the ECU to the CAN vehicle network.

   Connect the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor CAN network parameters, verify controller status, and check if the DPF controller is online and transmitting.

   Isolate the Battery

   Turn off the machine and attach a 'Do Not Operate' tag. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during inspection.

   Inspect and Clean Connections

   Locate the wiring harness connecting the DPF controller to the ECU. Disconnect the harness and inspect the pins. Clean any corrosion using electrical contact cleaner and ensure pins are seated tightly.

   Repair Wiring

   If chafed or broken wires are found in the CAN bus harness, splice and repair the wires using an approved CAN bus wiring repair kit, ensuring the twisted pair configuration of the CAN lines is maintained.

   Check CAN Terminators

   Verify the resistance of the CAN bus network (should be approximately 60 ohms with the battery disconnected). If the resistance is incorrect, locate and replace the faulty CAN Bus Terminator resistor.

   Replace Module

   If the wiring, connectors, and terminators are all intact and the ECU still cannot communicate with the DPF controller, the DPF controller module itself (or the ECU) has likely failed internally and must be replaced.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use the New Holland EST or an onboard DTC eraser to clear the fault codes and verify the DPFC1 message is restored.
