ENG 124

New Holland ENG 124 – ENGINE: Boost Pressure level has exceeded the warning limit.

Issue description

This code indicates an overboost condition. The engine controller has detected that the intake manifold boost pressure generated by the turbocharger has surpassed the maximum safe threshold programmed into the system.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 Series
  • TM Series
  • T7 Series
  • MX Magnum
  • TG Series
  • Maxxum
  • Combine harvesters
  • Forage harvesters

Check the cause

  1. Use a diagnostic tool to monitor live data from the Boost Pressure Sensor (MAP sensor) and compare it against the Atmospheric Pressure Sensor (readings should be nearly identical with the engine off).

  2. Inspect the boost pressure sensor for heavy soot buildup or physical damage.

  3. Check the wiring harness and connector pins at the boost pressure sensor for corrosion, shorts, or breaks.

  4. Inspect the turbocharger wastegate and actuator to ensure the wastegate is not mechanically stuck closed.

  5. Check the pneumatic lines running to the wastegate actuator for blockages, kinks, or leaks.

Repair steps

  1. Clean/Replace the Sensor

If the diagnostic tool shows erratic or implausibly high boost readings even at idle or engine-off, remove the Boost Pressure Sensor from the intake manifold. Clean any soot/carbon buildup. If the sensor is faulty, replace it with a new OEM sensor.

  2. Free the Wastegate

If the sensor is reading accurately and the engine is genuinely overboosting, disconnect the actuator arm from the wastegate. Manually move the wastegate valve to ensure it operates smoothly. If it is seized, apply penetrating oil and work it free, or replace the turbocharger housing/wastegate assembly if it is damaged beyond repair.

  3. Actuator Replacement

If the wastegate moves freely but the actuator is not opening it under pressure, replace the wastegate actuator.

  4. Clear Codes and Test

Once the mechanical or electrical fault is resolved, use the diagnostic tool to clear the ENG 124 code from the Engine ECU.

  5. Validation Drive

Run the machine under a heavy working load to build maximum boost. Monitor the live boost pressure data to ensure it stays within the specified warning limits and verify the code does not return.
