ENG 141

New Holland ENG 141 – Engine Controller (Engine ECU / EDC): Oil Pressure Sensor voltage is too low.

Issue description

This is an electrical fault indicating that the signal voltage returning from the engine oil pressure sensor to the controller has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This typically points to an open circuit, a short to ground in the sensor wiring, or an internally failed sensor. While it is an electrical fault, it will often trigger a low oil pressure warning on the dash because the controller cannot verify the actual oil pressure.

Check the cause

  1. Verify mechanical oil level using the engine oil dipstick to ensure the engine actually has oil.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness from the engine oil pressure sensor back to the Engine ECU for rubbed-through insulation, pinched wires, or shorts to ground.

  3. Disconnect the sensor pigtail and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.

  4. Perform multimeter testing with the key ON (engine off) to check for a 5V reference signal and a good ground at the sensor connector. If reference voltage is missing, the issue is in the harness or ECU. If voltage is present but the code persists, the sensor has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the engine oil pressure sensor, typically threaded directly into the side of the engine block near the oil filter housing or main oil gallery.

  3. Remove the Sensor

    Unplug the electrical connector. Using a deep socket or wrench, carefully unthread the old sensor from the block. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of residual oil may weep out.

  4. Install the New Sensor

    Thread the new OEM sensor into the block. Note: Many of these sensors use a 1/4 NPT or M12x1.5 thread. Do not overtighten, as you can crack the sensor housing or strip the block threads.

  5. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use your diagnostic tool (or the machine's onboard display) to clear the inactive ENG 141 code. Start the engine and verify that the oil pressure registers normally on the dash and no warning lights return.
