New Holland ENG 154 – Engine Controller (ENG / Engine ECU): Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor voltage is too low
Issue description
The engine control module is receiving a voltage signal from the sensor that falls below the minimum acceptable threshold. This typically points to a short to ground in the sensor's signal wire, a shorted sensor internally, or a failed engine controller input.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground.
Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.
With the key ON and the sensor disconnected, probe the harness connector to verify a 5V reference signal from the Engine ECU and a good ground. If missing or shorted, the harness or ECU is at fault.
Measure the resistance across the sensor's pins. If the resistance reads near zero ohms (continuity), the sensor is internally shorted and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor, which is threaded directly into the engine's intake manifold (often near the boost pressure sensor).
Disconnect
Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it away from the sensor.
Removal
Using a deep socket or wrench, carefully unthread the faulty temperature sensor from the intake manifold.
Installation
Thread the new sensor into the manifold by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it to the OEM torque specification. (Note: Check if the new sensor requires an O-ring; OEM diagrams note an 11.3 ID x 2.2 mm O-ring is often used).
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness until it clicks into place. Reconnect the battery.
Verification
Start the engine and use a diagnostic tool or the machine's onboard display to clear the inactive ENG 154 fault code. Verify that the code does not return and that the intake temperature reads accurately on the monitor.
