New Holland ENG 223 – ENG: CORS (Centinel Oil Replacement System) Burn Valve Solenoid circuit is shorted or has an open circuit
Issue description
The engine controller has detected an electrical fault (short to ground, short to voltage, or open circuit) in the Centinel Oil Replacement System (CORS) Burn Valve Solenoid's wiring or internal coil.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- New Holland T9 Series
- New Holland T9000 Series
- New Holland CR9090
- New Holland CX8080 Elevation
- New Holland CX8090 Elevation Tier 4A Combines
Check the cause
Inspect connectors at the Burn Valve Solenoid, the Centinel control module, and the ECM for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.
Measure solenoid resistance by disconnecting the burn valve solenoid from the Centinel harness and measuring across the pins to check for an internal short or open coil.
Perform a harness continuity and short test by disconnecting the Centinel harness from the control module/ECM and measuring resistance from the power relay connector to the burn valve solenoid. Test the circuits for a short to ground or a short to a voltage source.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine's key switch and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Valve
Locate the Centinel Burn Valve Solenoid on the engine block/oil management plumbing.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a chafed wire or short in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or replace the harness pigtail.
Replace the Solenoid
If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test (internally shorted or open), unbolt the Burn Valve Solenoid from the Centinel plumbing block. Install the new solenoid and torque to OEM specifications.
Clean and Reconnect
Clean all electrical contacts with electronic contact cleaner. Reconnect the harness to the solenoid and the ECM.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use a diagnostic service tool to clear the ENG 223 fault code. Run the engine and verify the code does not return.
