ENG 2265

New Holland ENG 2265 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Electric Lift Pump for Engine Fuel Supply Voltage too high.

Issue description

This fault code indicates an electrical issue within the fuel delivery system. Specifically, the engine's control system has detected that the voltage on the electric lift pump control circuit is above normal parameters, or the circuit is shorted to a high-voltage source.

Applies to these machines

  • CX 6.80
  • CR8.90
  • CR9070
  • CR9090
  • CX8080
  • T8
  • T9
  • TM
  • 60 series
  • L160
  • LS170
  • C175
  • L140
  • L175
  • LS140
  • LS175

Check the cause

  1. Verify the machine's battery voltage and alternator output to ensure the system is not overcharging and causing a global high-voltage condition.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the electric lift pump. Look for chafed wires that may be shorting the pump's control wire directly to a 12V power source.

  3. Disconnect the lift pump and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bridging that could cause a short circuit.

  4. Test the lift pump relay to ensure it is not stuck closed and supplying constant, unregulated voltage to the pump.

  5. With the key in the ON position, probe the lift pump connector with a multimeter to verify the exact voltage reaching the pump.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair. Clean the area around the fuel filter and lift pump to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

  2. Removal

Disconnect the electrical connector from the lift pump.

  3. Dismounting

Depending on the model, either turn the locking ring or remove the retaining bolts to detach the electric lift pump from the sedimenter/filter head.

  4. O-Ring Replacement

Remove the old O-rings. You must install new O-rings on the new lift pump to prevent air leaks, which will cause hard starting.

  5. Installation

Place the new electric lift pump onto the filter head. Secure it by tightening the locking ring or reinstalling the bolts.

  6. Reconnection

Plug the electrical connector back into the pump and reconnect the battery.

  7. System Bleeding

Do not crank the engine immediately. Turn the key switch to the ON position (without starting). The electric lift pump will run for approximately 30 seconds. Turn the key OFF, wait 5 seconds, and turn it back ON. Repeat this key-cycling process 6 to 12 times to allow the electric lift pump to purge all air from the fuel filters and lines. On the final cycle, crank the engine.
