New Holland ENG 2292 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Fuel Inlet Meter Device higher than expected
Issue description
The Engine Control Module is detecting a fuel flow or fuel rail pressure that is higher than the commanded value. This typically means the valve is mechanically stuck open, there is a short in the wiring harness, or the fuel rail pressure sensor is providing a falsely high reading.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- New Holland T9 Series tractors
- New Holland T9000 Series tractors
- New Holland CR9090 Combine
- New Holland CX8080 Elevation Combine
- New Holland CX8090 Elevation Combine
- New Holland telehandlers
- New Holland forage harvesters
Check the cause
Inspect the low-pressure fuel system for plugged fuel filters or pinched lines to rule out fuel restrictions
Inspect the fuel supply lines between the tank and the high-pressure pump for air leaks
Check the electrical connector at the Fuel Inlet Meter Device (MPROP) on the high-pressure fuel pump for rubbed wires, corrosion, or a short-to-power/short-to-ground
Use a diagnostic tool to monitor commanded versus actual fuel rail pressure. If actual pressure reads abnormally high with the engine off, the rail pressure sensor may be faulty
Repair steps
Service the Fuel Filters
Replace the primary and secondary fuel filters and bleed the low-pressure fuel system to rule out basic fuel supply issues.
Test the Circuit
Disconnect the harness from the Fuel Inlet Meter Device. Turn the key ON and use a multimeter to verify the ECM is sending the correct reference voltage. Check the ground circuit for excessive resistance. Repair the harness if voltage is out of specification.
Replace the Fuel Inlet Meter Device
If the wiring and rail pressure sensor test good, the mechanical valve inside the metering device is likely stuck. Clean the area around the high-pressure fuel pump thoroughly. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the mounting bolts, and carefully pull the device out, ensuring the O-rings come out with it. Lubricate the O-rings on the new Fuel Inlet Meter Device with clean diesel fuel, press it into the pump housing, and torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the harness, clear the ENG 2292 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and run the engine. Verify that the actual rail pressure now matches the commanded rail pressure across different RPMs.
Parts you might need
(1)Fuel Inlet Meter Device / Fuel Metering Unit / MPROP Valve / Fuel Actuator
Exact CNH part number depends strictly on the Engine Serial Number (ESN). Mounts directly to the side or rear of the high-pressure fuel injection pump. Ensure the replacement part includes new O-rings.
