New Holland ENG 2293 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / ENG: Fuel Inlet Meter Device flow demand lower than expected

The engine controller is detecting a discrepancy in the high-pressure fuel system. The flow demand required to maintain the target rail pressure has dropped below the expected operational map, which typically indicates that the actuator is sticking, there is a restriction in the fuel supply, or the system is compensating for an unexpected pressure variance.

   Check for related codes (such as ENG 2311, ENG 2372, or ENG 2292) to isolate electrical versus mechanical issues

   Inspect the fuel/water separator and main fuel filters for clogs that could cause erratic fuel supply pressures

   Check for air intrusion in the low-pressure fuel supply lines, which can cause rail pressure spikes and drops

   Inspect the electrical connector and wiring harness leading to the Fuel Inlet Meter Device on the high-pressure fuel pump for corrosion, chafing, or loose pins

   Filter Replacement

   Drain the fuel/water separator. Remove and replace both the primary and secondary engine fuel filters to rule out a supply restriction.

   System Bleeding

   Prime and bleed the low-pressure fuel system to ensure all air is evacuated from the lines.

   Harness Testing

   Disconnect the harness at the Fuel Inlet Meter Device. Use a multimeter to verify proper voltage and ensure there is no short to ground or open circuit in the actuator wiring.

   Actuator Replacement

   If the filters and wiring are in good condition, thoroughly clean the area around the high-pressure fuel pump. Remove the mounting bolts securing the Fuel Inlet Meter Device to the high-pressure fuel pump. Remove the old actuator and discard the O-rings. Lubricate the O-rings on the new actuator with clean diesel fuel and install it into the pump. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specification.

   Clear and Test

   Reconnect the battery, clear the ENG 2293 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and run the engine to verify that the commanded fuel flow and actual rail pressure are now synchronized.
