New Holland ENG 2322 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Engine Camshaft Speed / Position Sensor data invalid

The Engine Control Module (ECM) is receiving erratic, intermittent, or incorrect signals from the camshaft position sensor, which may cause poor performance, misfires, or failure to start.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the camshaft position sensor and the Engine ECU for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose connector pins.

   Ensure the sensor is properly mounted and torqued to prevent altered air gaps causing erratic readings.

   Remove the sensor and inspect it for physical damage or heavy metallic debris buildup on the magnetic tip.

   Check for accompanying crankshaft position sensor codes (e.g., ENG 2321) which may indicate a mechanical timing issue or shared voltage supply problem.

   Safety First

   Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the camshaft position sensor on the engine block (typically near the timing gear cover or cylinder head).

   Disconnect

   Press the release tab on the electrical connector (usually a 2-pin or 3-pin connector) and carefully pull it away from the sensor.

   Remove the Sensor

   Remove the retaining bolt securing the sensor to the engine block. Carefully twist and pull the sensor out of its bore.

   Clean the Area

   Wipe the sensor bore with a clean rag to ensure no dirt or debris falls into the engine.

   Install the New Sensor

   Lightly lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean engine oil. Push the sensor straight into the bore until it seats fully.

   Secure and Reconnect

   Install the retaining bolt and tighten it to the OEM torque specification. Reconnect the electrical harness until it clicks into place.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the ENG 2322 fault code. Start the engine to verify the repair.
