ENG 2372

New Holland ENG 2372 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Controller (ENG): Engine Fuel Filter clogged error

Issue description

The engine control system has detected a restriction in the fuel delivery system, specifically indicating that the primary or secondary fuel filter is clogged with debris, contaminants, or gelled fuel (paraffin in cold weather). This restriction causes a pressure drop that triggers the fault.

Applies to these machines

  • T7 Series
  • T8 Series
  • T8.275
  • T8.435
  • T9 Series
  • T9.390
  • T9.560
  • Workmaster series
  • Boomer series
  • TC series
  • CX Series
  • CX8080
  • CR Series
  • CR7.90
  • CR9090
  • FR forage harvesters

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the fuel filter water separator bowl (if equipped) for water, white chalky substances, or heavy sediment

  2. Check fuel quality to ensure the fuel is not contaminated or gelled (a common issue if using summer diesel in winter temperatures)

  3. Inspect low-pressure fuel lines for kinks, damage, or air leaks that could simulate a pressure drop

  4. Check the wiring and connector going to the fuel filter restriction sensor for damage or faults that could falsely trigger the code

  5. Verify that the electric or mechanical fuel lift pump is operating correctly and supplying adequate pressure to the filter head

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Turn off the engine, allow it to cool, and relieve any pressure from the fuel system. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the outside of the fuel filter housing to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system during removal.

  3. Disconnect Sensors

If the filter has a water-in-fuel sensor or restriction sensor attached to the bottom bowl, carefully unplug the electrical connector.

  4. Remove the Filter

Unscrew the spin-on fuel filter cartridge. If it is tight, use a filter wrench. Drain the fuel into an appropriate container and discard the old filter.

  5. Prepare the New Filter

Lubricate the rubber O-ring/seal on the new fuel filter with clean diesel fuel.

  6. Install the Filter

Thread the new filter onto the housing and hand-tighten it securely. Reattach any sensors or drain bowls to the bottom.

  7. Bleed the Fuel System

Use the manual priming pump (primer bulb or hand plunger located near the filter head) to pump fuel into the filter. Continue pumping until you feel firm resistance, indicating that air has been purged from the low-pressure lines.

  8. Test

Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and let it idle. Inspect the filter area for any fuel leaks.

  9. Clear Codes

If the ENG 2372 code is still active on the dash, use an ECU diagnostic tool to clear the inactive fault codes.
