New Holland ENG 271 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ENG): Front Pumping Control Valve current is low during ‘click test’

The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected an open circuit or abnormally low current on the front pumping control valve return circuit (specifically pin A21) during its automated diagnostic 'click test'.

   Disconnect the engine harness from the front pumping control valve at the 4-pin connector and inspect for bent, broken, pushed back, or corroded pins, missing seals, or moisture.

   Check for an open circuit in the wiring harness between the ECM (pin A21) and the front pumping control valve.

   Use an electronic service tool to manually activate the 'Solenoid Click Test' on the front pumping valve solenoid and listen for an audible click to verify mechanical and electrical operation.

   Note component integration

   The front pumping control valve is an integrated component of the CAPS fuel pump accumulator module. It cannot be serviced individually.

   Remove fuel pump

   Remove the air bleed line and remove the fuel pump from the engine.

   Mount fuel pump

   Mount the fuel pump in a vise ring (Cummins Part No. 3162897) with the distributor facing upward.

   Replace accumulator module

   Replace the entire fuel pump accumulator module.

   Reinstall components

   Reinstall the fuel injection pump and air bleed line.

   Perform click test

   Turn the key switch to the 'ON' position and use an electronic service tool to perform the click test again. This is required after repairs to clear the inactive fault codes.
