ENG 295

New Holland ENG 295 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Ambient Air Pressure data invalid.

Issue description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected that the signal from the ambient air pressure sensor does not agree with the signal from the intake manifold air pressure sensor (boost pressure) or the oil pressure sensor. The engine will typically be de-rated to a 'no air' setting.

Applies to these machines

  • TG210
  • TG230
  • TG255
  • TG285
  • T8040
  • T9 Series
  • T9000 Series
  • CR9090
  • CX8080 Elevation
  • CX8090 Elevation

Check the cause

  1. Check for Accompanying Codes: Verify if Fault Code ENG 115 (Engine Speed/Cam Sensor) or other pressure sensor codes are present.

  2. Sensor Comparison: Using a diagnostic scan tool with the key ON and engine OFF, compare the readings of the Ambient Air Pressure Sensor, Intake Manifold Air Pressure Sensor, and Oil Pressure Sensor (they should all read atmospheric pressure).

  3. Wiring & Circuit Check: Inspect the 3-pin rectangular connector and the wiring harness leading to the ambient air pressure sensor for chafing, corrosion, or shorts.

  4. TSB Verification: Check if the machine still has an older engine-mounted sensor and update to a harness-mounted ambient air pressure sensor kit if necessary.

Repair steps

  1. Turn the ignition off and disconnect the battery ground cable.

Ensure the machine is powered down before beginning work.

  2. Locate the ambient air pressure sensor.

Depending on the engine generation, it will either be mounted directly to the engine block or integrated into the engine wiring harness.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector.

Depress the locking tab and disconnect the 3-pin rectangular electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove the faulty sensor.

Remove the mounting hardware securing the sensor and remove the faulty unit.

  5. Install the new sensor.

Install the new ambient air pressure sensor and secure it with the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect the electrical connector.

Reconnect the 3-pin electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place.

  7. Reconnect the battery ground cable.

    Restore power to the machine.

  8. Clear the fault code and verify.

Turn the key ON and use a diagnostic tool to clear the ENG 295 fault code. Verify that the ambient air pressure reading now matches the intake manifold pressure reading.
