ENG 297

New Holland ENG 297 – Engine Control Module (ECM / Engine ECU): OEM Pressure Sensor Voltage is too high

Issue description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected the signal voltage from the OEM pressure sensor circuit is out of range high (above normal). This condition is usually caused by an open return circuit in the harness, connectors, or the sensor itself, or the signal circuit being shorted to the sensor supply or battery voltage.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T7
  • New Holland T8
  • New Holland T9
  • CR Revelation combines

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the OEM pressure sensor, wiring harness, and connectors for physical damage, moisture, or pushed-back pins.

  2. Check the sensor voltage using a multimeter to verify if the signal is genuinely out of range high.

  3. Test the wiring harness for an open return circuit.

  4. Test the signal circuit to ensure it is not shorted to the sensor supply voltage or battery voltage.

  5. Disconnect and reconnect components to isolate whether the issue lies in the sensor, the wiring harness, or the ECM's response.

Repair steps

  1. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.

Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.

  2. Locate the OEM pressure sensor.

Locate the OEM pressure sensor (location varies by specific machine model; refer to your specific OEM service manual).

  3. Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins.

Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for corrosion or damage. Clean or repair the connector if necessary.

  4. Repair or replace the damaged section of the engine wiring harness.

If the multimeter tests reveal an open return circuit or a short to the battery/supply voltage, repair or replace the damaged section of the engine wiring harness.

  5. Replace the faulty OEM pressure sensor.

If the wiring harness tests good but the voltage reading at the sensor remains out of range, replace the faulty OEM pressure sensor.

  6. Reconnect all components securely.

    Reconnect all components securely.

  7. Perform a key cycle to validate the repair.

To validate the repair and clear the fault code, perform a key cycle: turn the keyswitch ON, start the engine, and let it idle for at least 1 minute. The fault code status should change to INACTIVE, and the ECM will turn off the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp.
