New Holland ENG 3004 – Engine ECU (EDC / EDC7): Foot Throttle Sensor - No Signal - Error

The ECU is receiving 0V or an open-circuit reading from the sensor circuit, preventing the machine from responding to foot pedal inputs.

   Inspect the foot throttle sensor, the wiring harness, and the connector at the pedal base for physical damage, micro-cracks, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

   Using a multimeter, verify the 5V reference voltage supply to the sensor from the ECU (often Pin 17). If there is no 5V supply, the issue is in the wiring harness or the ECU, not the sensor.

   Back-probe the signal return wire (e.g., Pin 23). With the key ON, the voltage should smoothly scale up as the pedal is depressed. A constant 0V reading confirms the sensor has failed internally or the signal wire is broken.

   On supported New Holland tractors, enter the 'H9 – Vehicle Sensor and Voltage Tests' routine via the instrument panel to verify the operating voltages of the throttle potentiometer directly through the ECU's live data to rule out a mechanical linkage issue.

   Preparation

   Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the ignition, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the foot throttle pedal assembly in the cab floorboard. You may need to remove a protective kick-panel or rubber floor mat to access the mounting hardware.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the foot throttle position sensor.

   Remove the Assembly

   Remove the mounting hardware (often M5 bolts/screws) securing the sensor or the entire pedal bracket assembly. If the sensor is connected to a mechanical linkage rod, unclip the rod.

   Install the New Part

   Mount the new throttle position sensor (or complete pedal assembly, if integrated). Reattach the mechanical linkage rod and tighten the mounting screws.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor until it clicks. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

   Clear and Test

   Turn the key to the ON position. Use a diagnostic tool or the onboard instrument cluster menu to clear the inactive ENG 3004 fault code. Start the engine and test the pedal to ensure smooth RPM acceleration.
