New Holland ENG 3007 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Engine Coolant Temperature Monitoring System Issue

Issue description

The engine coolant temperature has exceeded the maximum safe operating limit, or the sensor's signal voltage is out of range (e.g., dropping below 4.8 volts), indicating a short to ground, an open circuit, or a failed sensor.

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the fault is active by clearing codes with an Electronic Service Tool and running the machine to see if it returns

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the coolant temperature sender and the ECU for chafing, corrosion, or breaks

  3. Perform pinpoint testing on the Coolant Temperature Sender and ECU connectors (e.g., Connector X-016 pins 57 and 58, Connector X-017 pin 13)

  4. Test the coolant temperature signal wire for a short to positive battery, short to ground, or an open circuit

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

    Connect your diagnostic tool, clear the ENG 3007 code, and run the engine to confirm it is a hard fault.

  2. Visual Inspection

    Locate the Engine Coolant Temperature Sender (typically threaded into the engine cylinder head or thermostat housing manifold). Inspect the 2-pin connector and wiring for chafing, corrosion, or breaks.

  3. Multimeter Testing

    Disconnect the sensor and test the wiring harness for continuity to the ECU and check for a short to ground.

  4. Replace the Sensor

    If the wiring is intact but the sensor's resistance values are out of specification (or the signal voltage is reading improperly below 4.8V), the thermistor inside the sensor has failed. Unthread the old sensor, install the new OEM sensor, and reconnect the harness.

  5. ECU Verification

    If the wiring and the sensor both test perfectly, the failure mode points to a faulty ECU, which will require dealer replacement or reprogramming.
