New Holland ENG 3007 – Engine Controller (Engine ECU / EDC / EDC7): Coolant Temperature Sensor - Signal Above Range Max.
Issue description
The voltage signal returning from the engine coolant temperature sensor to the control module is higher than the maximum allowable threshold. This almost always points to an open circuit, meaning there is a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or the sensor itself has failed internally and has infinite resistance.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Locate the coolant temperature sensor on the engine block or thermostat housing. Check the electrical connector to ensure it is securely plugged in.
Connector Health: Unplug the sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.
Wiring Harness Check: Trace the two wires from the sensor back to the Engine ECU. Look for chafing, pinched wires, or breaks, which would cause an open circuit and trigger the 'Above Range Max' code.
Multimeter Test: Measure the resistance across the two pins of the sensor. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance, the sensor has failed internally and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Allow the engine to cool completely to avoid burns from hot coolant.
Relieve Pressure
Slowly remove the radiator cap to relieve any residual pressure in the cooling system.
Drain Coolant (Optional but Recommended)
Drain the coolant level down below the level of the sensor to prevent a massive spill, or have the new sensor ready to swap immediately to minimize coolant loss.
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the 2-pin electrical connector. Use a deep socket or wrench to unscrew the faulty coolant temperature sensor from the engine block/housing.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new sensor into the port (some sensors, like part #504264463, use a 1/2" x 14 NPTF thread and may not require additional thread sealant, but verify based on the specific part). Tighten to OEM specifications.
Reassemble
Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks. Top off the engine coolant to the proper level.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use the CNH diagnostic software/tool to clear the inactive ENG 3007 fault code. Run the engine and verify there are no leaks and that the temperature gauge reads correctly.
