New Holland ENG 3011 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC / EDC7: Air Intake Temperature Sensor - Signal Above Range Min

The voltage signal being sent from the air intake temperature sensor to the engine controller has fallen outside the acceptable minimum threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to ground, an open circuit in the wiring, a broken connector, or an internal failure of the sensor element itself.

   Visual Inspection: Locate the air intake temperature sensor on the intake manifold or charge air piping. Inspect the wiring harness and the plastic connector for broken retention clips, frayed wires, or corrosion.

   Wiring Test: Use a multimeter to check the sensor wiring harness back to the ECM for an open circuit or a short to ground.

   Sensor Test: Test the sensor's internal resistance to verify if the thermistor has failed (reading completely open or shorted).

   Contamination Check: Remove the sensor and check the probe for severe soot, oil, or physical damage that could skew the temperature readings.

   Prepare machine for repair

   Turn off the machine, remove the key from the ignition, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the Air Intake Temperature Sensor on the engine's air intake manifold.

   Disconnect wiring harness

   Carefully depress the retention clip on the electrical pigtail and disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor.

   Remove faulty sensor

   Unthread or unbolt the faulty sensor from the intake manifold housing.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new replacement sensor and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect wiring harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the plastic retention clip locks securely into place.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

   Clear fault code

   Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EASy) to clear the fault code from the ECM memory, or run the machine through a standard operating cycle to see if the controller clears the inactive code automatically.
