New Holland ENG 3011 – ENGINE: Air Intake Temperature Sensor - Signal Below Range Minimum
Issue description
The voltage signal returning from the intake air temperature sensor to the control module has dropped below the acceptable minimum threshold. This usually points to a short to ground in the sensor wiring, an open circuit, or a completely failed sensor.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- T-Series Tractors (T5, T6, T7, T8, T9 series)
- CR and CX Series Combines
- Skid Steer Loaders
- Compact Track Loaders
- Wheel Loaders (W190B)
Check the cause
Use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault codes and operate the machine to see if ENG 3011 returns as an active fault.
Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the Air Intake Temperature Sensor for physical damage, corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.
Use a multimeter to check the sensor signal wire for continuity back to the Engine ECU. Test the wire for a short to ground or an open circuit.
Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage from the ECU.
If the wiring is intact and the reference voltage is present, the sensor itself is likely the point of failure and should be replaced.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the Air Intake Temperature Sensor. Depending on the engine model, it will be mounted on the intake manifold or the charge air/boost pipe (sometimes integrated as a combined MAP/IAT sensor).
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the sensor.
Remove the Sensor
Unthread the faulty sensor or remove its retaining bolts, taking care not to drop debris into the intake manifold.
Install the New Part
Install the replacement Air Intake Temperature Sensor. Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Test
Reconnect the battery. Start the engine and use your diagnostic tool to clear the stored ENG 3011 code. Run the machine at operating RPMs to ensure the code does not return and the sensor reads plausible temperature data.
