New Holland ENG 3012 – Engine Controller (EDC) / VCM: Air Intake Temperature Sensor -(via CAN) No Signal

The control module is failing to receive a valid temperature reading from the air intake temperature sensor over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. This lack of signal prevents the engine management system from properly adjusting the fuel injection based on the incoming air temperature.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Air Intake Temperature Sensor for chafing, breaks, or shorts to ground.

   Inspect the electrical connector for corrosion, moisture, or a broken retention clip.

   Verify CAN bus integrity to ensure there are no broader communication malfunctions between the sensor node and the Engine Controller/VCM.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the Air Intake Temperature Sensor, which is typically mounted on the intake manifold or the air intake piping.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Carefully depress the retention clip on the wiring harness and pull the plug away from the sensor.

   Remove the Sensor

   Unthread or unbolt the faulty sensor from the intake manifold.

   Install the New Sensor

   Insert the replacement sensor into the intake port. Ensure it is properly seated to prevent boost/vacuum leaks.

   Reconnect

   Plug the wiring harness back into the new sensor, ensuring the retention clip clicks securely into place.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the ENG 3012 fault code from the Engine Controller/VCM.
