New Holland ENG 3019 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Boost Pressure Sensor - Signal Above Range Max

Issue description

The voltage signal returning from the boost pressure sensor to the controller has exceeded the maximum allowable threshold. This condition is typically caused by a defective sensor or a short circuit to an external power source (such as battery voltage) in the sensor's wiring harness.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the boost pressure sensor for chafing, melting, or pinched wires that could cause a short circuit to an external power source

  2. Disconnect the sensor and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage

  3. Use a multimeter to verify the reference voltage and check the signal wire for a short to battery voltage

  4. If the wiring is intact, the sensor itself is likely internally shorted or defective and should be replaced

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the boost pressure sensor, which is typically mounted on the engine's intake manifold.

  3. Disconnect

    Unplug the 4-pin electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove

    Unbolt or unscrew the faulty boost pressure sensor from the manifold.

  5. Install

    Install the new boost pressure sensor into the manifold, ensuring any O-rings or seals are properly seated.

  6. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor until it clicks securely.

  7. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a diagnostic tool (or DTC eraser) to clear the inactive ENG 3019 fault code from the Engine ECU.

  8. Test

    Start the engine and verify that the warning light remains off and the engine operates without derating.
