ENG 3023

New Holland ENG 3023 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Atmospheric Pressure Sensor - Signal Not Plausible Compared with Boost Pressure

Issue description

This code indicates a plausibility error between two sensors. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) compares the reading of the atmospheric (barometric) pressure sensor with the boost (intake manifold) pressure sensor when the engine is not producing boost. If the two pressure readings do not match within a specific calibrated threshold, the ECU flags the signals as 'not plausible'.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 Series
  • T7 Series
  • T8 Series
  • TS-A Series
  • CR Series
  • CR9090
  • CX Series
  • CX8080
  • CX8090

Check the cause

  1. Perform a Key-On, Engine-Off (KOEO) test using a diagnostic scan tool to view live data for both Atmospheric Pressure and Boost Pressure (both should read current local barometric pressure)

  2. Inspect the external boost pressure sensor and manifold port for heavy soot, carbon buildup, or debris that could skew the reading

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and 4-pin connector going to the boost pressure sensor for chafing, corrosion, or short circuits

  4. Check for an ECU internal failure (the atmospheric pressure sensor is integrated inside the ECU on these systems)

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Sensor

If carbon buildup is found on the boost pressure sensor, carefully clean the port and sensor. Reinstall and clear the codes to see if the plausibility error returns.

  2. Replace the Boost Pressure Sensor

If the boost pressure sensor reading is skewed at rest and wiring tests good, replace the boost pressure sensor.

  3. Replace the Engine ECU

If the boost pressure sensor is perfectly accurate but the code persists, the ECU's internal atmospheric sensor has failed. Replacing the ECU is the official fix, though it may not be necessary if never running in high altitude as the engine will substitute a default atmospheric value.
