ENG 3028

New Holland ENG 3028 – Engine ECU: Engine Oil Pressure Too Low

Issue description

The system has detected that the engine oil pressure signal is below the normal operating range. This code triggers continuously when the engine oil pressure drops below 37.7 psi while the engine is running at greater than 500 RPM.

Applies to these machines

  • C232
  • C175
  • L218
  • L220
  • L230
  • B110B
  • B95B
  • LB110
  • T8 series
  • T6010-T9060
  • Boomer series
  • CR9040
  • CX8030
  • L213-L230
  • C227-C238
  • L150-L190
  • Boomer 3040-4060
  • 1120-2120
  • L318
  • L320
  • L328
  • C332
  • C337
  • 1000-2110 series
  • LX/LS series

Check the cause

  1. Check engine oil level on the dipstick to ensure the engine is not starved of oil

  2. Inspect the engine block for severe external leaks, such as a blown crankshaft seal, which can rapidly deplete oil pressure

  3. Inspect the turbocharger for internal oil leaks by removing the charge air intake hose and checking for excessive oil pooling, and spin the impeller by hand to feel for rough spots or bearing failure

  4. Check the crankcase vent to verify if it is routing excessive blow-by and oil into the air intake

  5. Test the oil pressure sensor and wiring harness for shorts or open circuits (look for related codes like 3029, 3030, or 3031)

Repair steps

  1. Address Mechanical Leaks

If an external leak is found (e.g., crankshaft seal), replace the compromised seal and refill the engine oil to the specified level.

  2. Replace the Turbocharger

If the diagnostic checks reveal oil in the exhaust/intake side of the turbo or a damaged impeller bearing, replace the turbocharger assembly.

  3. Replace the Oil Pressure Sensor

If oil levels are fine, no mechanical leaks are present, and manual pressure testing shows healthy oil pressure, the sensor itself has likely failed. Remove the old sensor and install an OEM replacement.

  4. Clear the ECU Memory

Once the physical repair is completed, use a diagnostic tool or CAN-bus DTC eraser to clear the fault codes from the Engine ECU memory so the machine can resume normal operation.
