Issue description

This condition occurs when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that its supply voltage has dropped below a critical operating threshold (typically below 10V, or below 11V for 5 seconds, depending on the specific machine's parameters).

Check the cause

  1. Check for Cold Start Voltage Drop: Verify if the code is triggered during a cold start when the starter motor draws heavy current.

  2. Check Historical Data: Verify if the code is active or historical (e.g., from a recent battery disconnect).

  3. Battery Load Test: Test the battery's resting voltage and its performance under load.

  4. Alternator Output Test: Verify that the alternator is properly charging the system.

  5. Wiring and Fuses: Inspect the wiring harness, relays, and fuses that supply power to the ECM for corrosion, shorts, or loose connections.

Repair steps

  1. Verify the Fault

    Connect an Electronic Service Tool to the machine's diagnostic port to verify if ENG 3052 is currently active.

  2. Inspect the Battery

    Check the battery terminals for corrosion and ensure they are tight. Perform a load test on the battery. If the battery fails the load test or drops below 10V during cranking, replace the battery.

  3. Test the Alternator

    Start the engine and measure the voltage at the battery. If the alternator is not outputting sufficient charging voltage (typically ~14V), replace the alternator.

  4. Check ECM Power Supply

    Trace the wiring harness from the battery/fuse box to the ECM. Look for damaged wires, blown fuses, or faulty main relays. Repair any wiring faults.

  5. Test the ECM

    If the battery, alternator, and wiring are all verified to be in good working order, and the ECM is receiving proper voltage at its connector but still logging the code, the ECM itself has an internal fault and must be repaired or replaced.
