ENG 3053

New Holland ENG 3053 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Vehicle Speed Sensing (Tacho) - PWM Frequency Too High

Issue description

The control module is receiving a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal from the vehicle speed sensor (tachograph/speedometer sensor) where the frequency is registering above the acceptable maximum limit.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series tractors
  • Various New Holland and Case IH machines equipped with Cursor engines (Tier 3 / Tier 4A)

Check the cause

  1. Verify the vehicle speed sensor's physical installation

  2. Check the sensor wiring harness for shorts that could distort the frequency

  3. Verify the PWM signal frequency coming from the tacho sensor to the Engine ECM

Repair steps

  1. Repair or replace

Replace the faulty speed sensor or repair the damaged wiring harness causing the high-frequency signal.

  2. Clear DTC

Clear the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) from the engine ECU.
