New Holland ENG 3058 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): Timeout of CAN Message Vehicle Dynamics Control Unit

Communication failure on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. The engine controller is expecting to receive a regular data message from the Vehicle Dynamics Control Unit, but the message has timed out or is not being received.

• New Holland CR9090, CX8080 Elevation, and CX8090 Elevation Tier 4A Combines

   Verify the battery voltage to the ECM, as voltage drops can cause CAN modules to drop offline (related codes 3051/3052 indicate battery voltage to ECM too high/low).

   Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the Engine ECM and the Vehicle Dynamics Control Unit for physical damage, open circuits, or short circuits.

   Check the wiring harness connectors at both the ECM and the Vehicle Dynamics Control Unit for loose pins, moisture, or corrosion.

   Check if other CAN timeout codes are present (such as 3057: Timeout of CAN Message High Resolution Wheel Speed), which could indicate a broader CAN bus failure rather than a single module failure.

   Repair or replace wiring

   Repair or replace any damaged sections of the CAN wiring harness or connectors found during the diagnostic checks.

   Replace Vehicle Dynamics Control Unit

   If the wiring and power/ground supplies to the Vehicle Dynamics Control Unit are intact but it is still not broadcasting messages to the Engine ECM, the Vehicle Dynamics Control Unit itself may have failed and will require replacement and reprogramming.

   Clear fault codes

   Clear the inactive fault codes from the ECM after repairs are made to verify the CAN communication has been restored.
