New Holland ENG 3066 – Engine ECU (EDC): Injector solenoid valve Cylinder 5 - SOURCE LOW
Issue description
The engine control system has detected a low signal voltage, an open circuit, or a short circuit on the electrical line controlling the fuel injector for Cylinder 5.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- T7 series
- T8 series
- wheel loaders
- excavators
Check the cause
Inspect the injector cable and wiring harness for Cylinder 5 for any chafing, breaks, or a short-circuit (specifically checking for a short on the low side to the battery or ground).
Check the electrical connectors at both the Cylinder 5 injector and the Engine ECU for corrosion, backed-out pins, or moisture.
Test the resistance of the Cylinder 5 injector solenoid coil using a multimeter to determine if the coil has failed internally.
Verify the injection signals coming directly from the ECU to rule out an internal ECU failure.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent electrical arcing or further ECU damage.
Access injector harness
Gain access to the engine valve cover and remove it if necessary to access the Cylinder 5 injector harness connections.
Disconnect injector plug
Disconnect the electrical plug at the Cylinder 5 injector.
Repair or replace wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring, repair the wire break or replace the injector wiring harness pigtail.
Remove high-pressure fuel line
If the wiring is intact but the injector solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the high-pressure fuel line connected to Cylinder 5.
Remove defective injector
Remove the injector hold-down clamp and extract the defective Cylinder 5 fuel injector.
Install new injector
Install the new replacement injector, torque the hold-down clamp and high-pressure fuel lines to OEM specifications, and reconnect the electrical plug.
Reassemble and clear codes
Reassemble any removed engine covers, reconnect the battery, and use a diagnostic tool (such as the CNH EST) to clear the ENG 3066 fault code. Run the engine to verify the repair. (Note: If both the wiring and injector test perfectly, the service manual indicates the Engine ECU itself may need to be replaced).
