New Holland ENG 3068 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): Cylinder 3 - Unclassifiable Error in Injector

Issue description

The control module has detected an abnormal condition or implausible signal from the fuel injector solenoid on cylinder number 3. It is a specific error that does not fall into standard open-circuit or short-circuit categories.

Check the cause

  1. Check for related fault codes (3069, 3070, or 3071) which point directly to a wiring harness issue rather than a mechanical injector failure

  2. Inspect the wiring harness cables running from the Engine ECM to the cylinder 3 injector for chafing, breaks, or loose connections

  3. Test the resistance of the cylinder 3 injector solenoid to see if it is out of specification or shorting internally

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the battery before beginning any service work on the engine or fuel system.

  2. Clean the area

Clean the area around the electronic unit injector and the cylinder to prevent loose material or debris from entering the engine.

  3. Disconnect the electrical harness

Disconnect the electrical harness from the cylinder 3 injector.

  4. Remove components

Remove the high-pressure fuel line and the injector hold-down components.

  5. Extract the faulty injector

Extract the faulty injector from the cylinder head.

  6. Clean the carbon

Clean the carbon from the seat area inside the electronic unit injector sleeve using the appropriate OEM tooling.

  7. Install new O-ring seals

Install new O-ring seals on the replacement electronic unit injector. Lubricate the top two O-ring seals with a 50/50 mixture of clean engine oil and the specified OEM lubricant.

  8. Insert the new injector

Insert the new injector into the cylinder sleeve, taking care not to damage the internal seal lips.

  9. Reinstall components

Reinstall the hold-down components and high-pressure fuel lines, torquing all fittings to OEM specifications.

  10. Reconnect and clear codes

Reconnect the electrical harness and battery, then clear the fault codes from the ECM.
