ENG 3074

New Holland ENG 3074 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Bosch EDC7: Injector solenoid valve Cylinder 6 - SOURCE LOW

Issue description

The engine control system has detected a short circuit to ground or a low signal voltage on the electronic fuel injector circuit specifically for cylinder number 6.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series Tractors
  • New Holland CR9090 Tier 4A Combines
  • New Holland CX8080 Elevation Tier 4A Combines
  • New Holland CX8090 Elevation Tier 4A Combines
  • New Holland E385 Excavators
  • New Holland E485 Excavators

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness between the EDC7 ECU and the cylinder 6 injector for chafing, bare wires, or a short circuit to ground.

  2. Inspect the connections at the EDC ECU (specifically Connector A, which handles the electro-injectors) and the pass-through connector at the cylinder head.

  3. Measure the resistance (Ohms) of the cylinder 6 injector coil. If the coil resistance is out of specification, the injector has an internal short and must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the battery's negative terminal to prevent electrical arcing.

  2. Remove valve cover

Remove the engine valve cover to access the fuel injectors.

  3. Disconnect electrical connector

Disconnect the electrical connector from the cylinder 6 injector.

  4. Remove fuel line

Remove the high-pressure fuel line (tube) connected to cylinder 6.

  5. Remove hold-down clamp

    Remove the injector hold-down clamp.

  6. Extract faulty injector

Extract the faulty injector. (OEM documentation recommends using special tool 99342101 to safely remove and fit the injector into its seat).

  7. Prepare new injector

Prepare the new injector: Fit a new sealing ring lubricated with petroleum jelly and a new copper sealing washer on the injector.

  8. Install new injector

Install the new injector into the cylinder head seat. Ensure it is directed so that the fuel inlet hole is facing the fuel manifold seat side.

  9. Reinstall hold-down clamp

Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque to OEM specifications.

  10. Reconnect fuel line and connector

Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and the electrical connector.

  11. Reinstall valve cover

Reinstall the valve cover with a new gasket.

  12. Finalize repair

Reconnect the battery, bleed the fuel system, and clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or the Blink Code key procedure.
