New Holland ENG 3076 – Engine Controller: Cylinder 2 - Unclassifiable Error in Injector

The engine control system has detected an implausible signal, an open circuit, or a short circuit in the electrical circuit responsible for firing the fuel injector on cylinder number 2.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading from the Engine ECU to the cylinder 2 fuel injector for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Check for a short circuit in the wiring to an external voltage source (high side to battery) or to ground (low side).

   Test the cylinder 2 injector coil resistance with a multimeter to verify it is not internally shorted or open.

   Check the injection signals coming from the ECU using an oscilloscope or dealer diagnostic tool to ensure the ECU is sending the correct firing command.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the machine's battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical and high-pressure fuel systems.

   Access the Injector

   Remove the engine valve cover or necessary shrouding to gain access to the cylinder 2 fuel injector.

   Inspect and Clean

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the cylinder 2 injector. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and inspect for physical damage.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or break in the harness, repair or replace the damaged sections of the wiring harness.

   Replace Injector

   If the wiring tests good but the injector coil is defective (or the error persists after wiring repair), relieve the fuel system pressure, remove the high-pressure injector line for cylinder 2, and replace the faulty fuel injector.

   ECU Replacement

   If both the wiring and the injector are functioning correctly but the signal is still implausible, the Engine ECU may have an internal fault and will need to be replaced or sent out for repair.

   Reassembly and Clearing Codes

   Reassemble all components. If the high-pressure line was removed, bleed the fuel system according to the service manual. Reconnect the battery, use a diagnostic tool to clear the DTC, and run the engine to verify the misfire and code are resolved.
