New Holland ENG 3092 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Offset Between Camshaft and Crankshaft - Not Plausible
Issue description
This code indicates a timing synchronization issue. The Engine Control Module relies on the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor to determine engine speed and top dead center (TDC) for fuel injection timing. When the signals from these two sensors do not align within the expected parameters, the ECU flags the synchronization as 'not plausible'.

Check the cause
Check the wiring harness (specifically the yellow wiring circuit) between the camshaft/crankshaft sensors and the ECM for short circuits, open circuits, or loose pins.
Ensure both sensors are seated correctly and securely bolted down, as an improperly installed sensor can alter the air gap and cause a weak or erratic signal.
Turn the key ON (engine off) and check the supply voltage to the sensors (typically 5V or 12V) and ensure there is a constant ground.
Measure the signal wire while turning the engine over by hand. The voltage should cleanly toggle between a High state (source voltage) and a Low state (very close to 0V, e.g., 0.02V).
If available, use an oscilloscope to evaluate the raw waveforms of both sensors simultaneously to see if the physical timing is actually off or if a sensor is dropping the signal.
Use the CNH EST or EASY diagnostic tool to monitor engine RPM while cranking. If the RPM reads zero or fluctuates wildly, the crankshaft sensor is likely at fault.
Repair steps
Access the Sensors
Locate the camshaft position sensor (usually near the top of the timing gear housing/cylinder head) and the crankshaft position sensor (usually near the lower engine block/flywheel housing).
Disconnect and Remove
Disconnect the electrical connector from the suspect sensor. Remove the retaining bolt and carefully pull the sensor out of the engine block.
Inspect the Tone Ring/Gear
Shine a light into the mounting hole to inspect the tone ring or timing gear for damage, debris, or metal shavings that could disrupt the magnetic field.
Install the New Sensor
Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean engine oil. Insert the sensor fully until it seats flush against the mounting surface to ensure the correct air gap.
Secure and Reconnect
Tighten the retaining bolt to the OEM torque specification and reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear Codes
Connect the CNH diagnostic tool, clear the active ENG 3092 fault code, and run the engine to verify that the synchronization phase is successful and the code does not return.
