Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) did not receive the expected TSC1-AE (Torque/Speed Control 1 - Agricultural Equipment) CAN message from the main communication system (such as the Vehicle Control Module or Armrest controller) within the allotted time limit while the system was in an inactive state.

Check the cause
Check for Multiple CAN Codes: It is normal to log CAN faults during module programming. If multiple CAN codes are present (e.g., 3096 ECM Bus Off on Vehicle CAN), the entire CAN bus circuit is likely compromised, rather than just the TSC1-AE message pathway.
Test CAN Bus Resistance: The CAN network uses a twisted pair of wires: CAN HI (usually yellow) and CAN LO (usually green). With the machine turned off and the battery disconnected, measure the resistance between CAN HI and CAN LO. Because there is a 120-ohm terminating resistor at each end of the network, a healthy bus will read exactly 60 ohms.
Interpret Resistance Results: If the multimeter reads 120 ohms, one of the terminating resistors has failed or is missing. If the multimeter reads 0 ohms, the CAN wires are shorted together.
Inspect Connectors: Check the ECU and Vehicle Control Module (VCM) connectors for pushed-back pins, moisture, or corrosion, which are common causes of intermittent CAN timeouts.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Fault
Based on your resistance test, locate the physical break. If the resistance was 120 ohms, locate the two CAN bus terminating resistors (often located at the far ends of the harness, sometimes behind the cab panel or near the engine bay) and test them individually. Replace the faulty resistor.
Harness Repair
If the terminating resistors are intact (60 ohms total resistance), trace the yellow (CAN HI) and green (CAN LO) wires from the Engine ECU to the VCM. Look for chafing, pinch points, or melted insulation. Repair any damaged wire sections using proper solder and heat-shrink tubing.
Clean Connections
Disconnect the main harness at the Bosch EDC7 ECU. Spray the pins and receptacles with a high-quality electrical contact cleaner. Ensure no pins are bent.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect all modules and the battery. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic port, clear the inactive/historic fault codes, and cycle the key.
Test Run
Start the machine and operate the throttle/armrest controls to verify the CAN communication is restored and the ENG 3101 code does not return.
