New Holland ENG 3107 – Engine Controller: Fuel Metering Unit - Short Circuit to Battery

The Engine Control Unit has detected an electrical short to a positive voltage source (battery voltage) on the circuit that controls the high-pressure fuel pump's metering unit, preventing the ECU from properly regulating the amount of fuel entering the high-pressure pump.

• New Holland Skid Steer Loaders (SSL) and Compact Track Loaders (CTL) equipped with the F5C engine

   Verify that fault code 3107 (or P025D) is currently active on the service tool

   Turn off the key switch and ensure the machine is parked in a safe area

   Visually inspect the wiring harness and the Fuel Metering Unit connector for chafing, bare wires, or damage that could cause a short to battery voltage

   Disconnect the Fuel Metering Unit and check the ECU connection pins to isolate where the short circuit is occurring in the harness

   Measure the electrical resistance across Pin #1 and Pin #2 of the Fuel Metering Unit (a healthy unit reads between 2.6 to 3.15 Ohms at 20°C)

   Use the diagnostic service tool to perform a 'Metering unit test' to see if the ECU can command the valve

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a short to battery voltage in the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the Fuel Metering Unit, repair or replace the damaged section of the harness.

   Replace Component

   If the wiring harness tests perfectly fine but the Fuel Metering Unit fails the electrical resistance test (out of the 2.6~3.15 Ω range) or fails the actuator test, replace the Fuel Metering Unit.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect all components and use the service tool to clear the fault code.

   Validation

   Start the engine and set the RPM to high idle for at least 10 minutes to verify that the fault code does not return and that the engine operates normally.
