New Holland ENG 3110 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Rail Pressure Sensor Offset Monitoring - Value above Limit
Issue description
The engine control module is detecting an inaccurate reading from the fuel rail pressure sensor. The sensor reports a pressure value that exceeds the maximum allowable offset limit, pointing to an electrical skew or internal failure of the sensor itself.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- T4
- T5
- T6
- T7
- T8
- T9
- CR8.90
- CR9.90
- CR10.90
Check the cause
Connect a diagnostic scan tool and read the live fuel rail pressure with the key ON and the engine OFF. It should read at or very near 0 psi (atmospheric pressure). If it reads artificially high, the sensor is skewed.
Inspect the 3-pin electrical connector at the fuel rail pressure sensor for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.
Check the sensor wiring harness for a short circuit to an external voltage source (short to battery/power), which would artificially drive the signal voltage above the maximum range.
Verify that the ECM is supplying the correct 5V reference and a solid ground to the sensor connector.
Repair steps
Depressurize
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery. Wait several minutes for the high-pressure fuel system to naturally depressurize.
Locate Sensor
Locate the fuel rail pressure sensor, which is threaded directly into the common fuel rail.
Clean Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor to prevent any dirt or debris from entering the open fuel rail.
Remove Sensor
Disconnect the electrical harness and use a wrench to carefully unscrew the faulty sensor.
Install New Sensor
Thread the new rail pressure sensor into the rail. Torque it strictly to the manufacturer's specification (over-tightening can damage the rail or sensor).
Reassemble
Reconnect the electrical harness and reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes
Turn the key to the ON position and use a diagnostic tool to clear the ENG 3110 fault code.
Test
Start the engine, check for fuel leaks around the new sensor fitting, and verify that the fault code does not return.
