New Holland ENG 3113 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU / EDC): Main Relay 1 (High Pressure Pump - power supply to the fuel metering unit) - Short to Battery.
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected a short to a high voltage source (battery voltage) in the circuit supplying power to the fuel metering unit. If the ECU detects voltage on this circuit when it should not be present, or detects an over-current condition indicating a short to battery, it logs this code and will likely derate the engine or cause a no-start condition to protect the fuel system.

Check the cause
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to confirm ENG 3113 is active
Visually inspect the engine wiring harness from the Engine ECU to the fuel metering unit on the high-pressure fuel pump for chafed wires, melted insulation, or rubbing against a 12V power source
Perform a circuit isolation test: disconnect the electrical connector at the fuel metering unit, turn the key ON, and check the harness pins for unexpected battery voltage
Swap Main Relay 1 in the power distribution box with a known good relay to see if the relay is internally shorted closed
Ohm test the fuel metering unit to ensure it is not internally shorted
Disconnect the harness at the ECU and check for continuity to battery power to rule out an internal ECU short
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Always disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing engine electrical components or the ECU.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic tests revealed a short to battery in the wiring harness, locate the damaged section. Splice and solder the broken wires, seal with heat-shrink tubing, and re-loom the harness. Route the harness away from hot or vibrating engine components.
Replace Main Relay 1
If the relay was found to be sticking closed or internally shorted, replace it with a new OEM relay.
Replace the Fuel Metering Unit
If the metering unit is internally shorted: Clean the area around the high-pressure fuel pump thoroughly to prevent dirt ingress. Remove the retaining screws holding the metering unit to the CP3 pump. Carefully extract the unit. Lubricate the O-rings on the new metering unit with clean diesel fuel and install it into the pump. Torque the fasteners to OEM spec.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect all electrical connectors and the battery. Connect the EST, clear the inactive fault codes, and run the engine to verify the repair. (Note: Some fuel system codes require an ECU reset via the EST to clear completely).
