New Holland ENG 3126 – Engine ECU: Hand Throttle - Channel 1 Signal Above Range Max.

This fault code indicates a circuit high condition. The engine control module is receiving a voltage signal from the Channel 1 circuit of the hand throttle potentiometer that exceeds the maximum allowable threshold. This typically points to a short to power (battery voltage) in the signal wire, an open ground circuit at the sensor, or an internally shorted/failed potentiometer.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the hand throttle potentiometer and its wiring harness in the cab/armrest console. Look for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or disconnected plugs.

   Connector Check: Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals. Do the same at the Engine ECU connector.

   Voltage & Ground Test: Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) and has a solid ground. An open ground will cause the signal voltage to float high, triggering this exact code.

   Signal Sweep Test: Back-probe the signal wire and monitor the voltage while slowly moving the hand throttle from idle to max. The voltage should increase/decrease smoothly. If the voltage is pegged at or near 5V regardless of lever position, the sensor is internally shorted or the signal wire is shorted to a power source.

   Harness Continuity: Disconnect the sensor and the ECU. Check the continuity of the signal wire between the two points, and test for a short to battery positive.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Sensor

   Remove the necessary trim panels on the right-hand console or armrest to access the base of the hand throttle lever assembly.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the hand throttle potentiometer. Remove the mounting screws or retaining pins holding the sensor to the throttle linkage.

   Install the New Sensor

   Mount the replacement potentiometer to the linkage, ensuring the physical alignment matches the throttle lever's sweep range (do not force the sensor past its rotational stops). Secure the fasteners.

   Plug the 3-pin harness connector back into the sensor. Reconnect the battery.

   Calibration/Clearing

   Turn the key to the ON position. Some New Holland systems require a throttle calibration via the instrument cluster or diagnostic tool after sensor replacement. Clear the ENG 3126 fault code.

   Start the engine and verify that the hand throttle smoothly increases and decreases engine RPM without hesitation or returning fault codes.
