New Holland ENG 3130 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Hand Throttle - Idle Switch Open Circuit

This fault code indicates that the Engine Control Module is not receiving the expected electrical signal from the hand throttle's idle validation switch. An "open circuit" means there is a physical break in the electrical path—either a broken wire, a disconnected plug, or an internal failure of the switch itself, preventing the system from verifying that the hand throttle is in the idle position.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the hand throttle assembly and the ECM for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Enter the tractor's diagnostic mode (H routines, menus d16 and d17) to see if the module registers the switch changing states when moving the lever.

   Disconnect the hand throttle switch and use a multimeter to test the internal continuity of the idle switch at the idle stop.

   Verify that the hand throttle potentiometer/switch is not physically out of alignment.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the trim panels on the right-hand console or armrest to access the underside of the hand throttle lever assembly.

   Disconnect and Remove

   Unplug the electrical connector leading to the hand throttle potentiometer/idle switch. Remove the retaining screws or clips holding the throttle sensor assembly in place.

   Harness Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire in the harness rather than a bad switch, splice and heat-shrink the broken wire, or replace the damaged connector pigtail.

   Install New Part

   If the switch is faulty, install the new hand throttle potentiometer/switch assembly. Secure the mounting hardware and plug in the electrical connector.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the console or armrest trim panels and reconnect the battery.

   Recalibrate the Throttle

   Because the APS and TPS values must match, use the machine's diagnostic interface to recalibrate the throttle control. This allows the ECU to "relearn" the exact voltage values for the closed (idle) and full-throttle positions.
