New Holland ENG 3133 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Cold Start Lamp - No Load

This fault code indicates that the engine controller has detected an open circuit (no electrical load) on the circuit responsible for illuminating the 'Cold Start' indicator lamp on the dashboard.

   Bulb Check: Turn the ignition key to the 'ON' position (without starting the engine) in cold conditions. Observe the instrument cluster to see if the cold start (grid heater) lamp illuminates. If it does not, the bulb or LED is likely burnt out, causing the 'no load' condition.

   Wiring Continuity: Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the instrument cluster/dashboard. Look for disconnected plugs, backed-out pins, or broken wires on the cold start lamp circuit.

   Fuse Inspection: Check the cab/dashboard fuse box for any blown fuses related to the instrument cluster or indicator lamps.

   System Verification: Verify if the actual grid heater is functioning properly or if the issue is strictly isolated to the indicator lamp circuit.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal before performing electrical repairs.

   Access the Dashboard

   Remove the necessary trim panels to access the rear of the instrument cluster or the specific indicator panel.

   Replace the Bulb (If Applicable)

   If your specific New Holland model utilizes replaceable incandescent bulbs for the dash indicators, remove the cold start lamp bulb, test it for continuity, and replace it if the filament is broken. Note: Many modern Tier 4a displays use integrated LEDs; if the LED has failed, the cluster may require professional repair or replacement.

   If the bulb is intact, use a multimeter to trace the circuit from the dash connector back to the Engine ECU. Repair any broken wires or replace damaged connector pins that are causing the open circuit.
