New Holland ENG 3141 – Engine Control Module (Engine ECU): Fuel Flow Set point Too Low

The fuel supply pressure or volume in the low-pressure system is insufficient. The engine control system detects that the set point of the fuel volume flowing through the fuel metering unit is lower than the calculated limit.

   Check for heavily clogged primary or secondary fuel filters, which are the most common cause of low fuel flow

   Inspect all low-pressure fuel lines for kinks, disconnections, or air leaks

   Check the water separator and fuel tank for contaminated fuel or debris blocking the pickup tube

   Verify that the low-pressure lift pump is supplying adequate pressure to the high-pressure injection pump

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector to the Fuel Metering Unit (MPROP or FCA valve) for shorts or opens

   Relieve Pressure

   Turn off the machine and allow the engine to cool. Ensure the high-pressure fuel system is depressurized.

   Replace Fuel Filters

   Drain the water separator. Remove and replace both the primary and secondary fuel filters to rule out flow restriction. Prime the fuel system.

   Clear and Retest

   Connect a diagnostic tool (such as the OEM CNH Electronic Service Tool or an aftermarket scanner like Jaltest) to clear the ENG 3141 code. Run the engine to see if the code returns under load.

   Test Fuel Supply Pressure

   If the code returns, connect a mechanical pressure gauge to the low-pressure fuel circuit. If the pressure is below spec, replace the low-pressure lift pump.

   Replace the Fuel Metering Unit

   If the low-pressure supply is adequate but the code persists (indicating internal leakage or reflux issues at the metering unit), locate the Fuel Metering Unit on the high-pressure fuel pump. Remove the mounting bolts, extract the old unit, and install a new OEM metering unit.

   Final Verification

   Bleed the fuel system, start the engine, and monitor the rail pressure and fuel flow set points via the diagnostic tool to ensure they match the commanded parameters.
