New Holland ENG 3188 – Engine Control Unit (Engine ECU / EDC7): Cylinder1 Warning - Injector Circuit Low
Issue description
The engine's control system has detected a low voltage or low current condition in the electrical circuit responsible for firing the fuel injector on cylinder number 1. This underlying condition is typically caused by an open circuit, a disconnected plug, damaged wiring harness, or an internally failed (open coil) fuel injector.

Check the cause
Stop the engine and let it cool completely before starting work. Do not start the engine during the service procedures.
Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the cylinder 1 fuel injector. Look for damaged wires, chafing, or signs of a short circuit.
Disconnect the cylinder 1 injector harness connector. Check for damaged or loose connector pins, pushed-out terminals, and any debris or water inside the connector terminals.
Check for any damaged or loose machine grounds (earths).
Measure the resistance across the cylinder 1 injector coil using a multimeter. An open coil will produce the low current condition that sets the circuit low code.
Repair steps
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical and high-pressure fuel systems.
Ensure safety while working on the electrical and high-pressure fuel systems.
Gain access to the engine valve cover and the common rail fuel injection system.
If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue (e.g., broken wire or corroded connector), repair the harness or replace the connector pigtail. Reconnect and test.
Addresses wiring or connector issues.
If the injector coil tested open/faulty, clean the area around the cylinder 1 fuel injector thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the engine.
Addresses an internally failed injector.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the cylinder 1 injector.
Remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the common rail to the cylinder 1 injector. Cap the rail and line fittings immediately to prevent contamination.
Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt and carefully extract the fuel injector from the cylinder head.
Clean the injector bore in the cylinder head, ensuring the old copper sealing washer is removed and the seating surface is spotless.
Install the new fuel injector with a new copper sealing washer and O-rings.
Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to the OEM specification.
Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and torque the fittings to spec.
Reconnect the electrical harness to the new injector.
Reconnect the battery.
Bleed the fuel system if required by the specific engine manual.
Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the ENG 3188 fault code. If required by the ECU, program the new injector's calibration code (IQA code) into the Engine Control Module.
Start the engine and check for leaks and proper operation.
