ENG 3189

New Holland ENG 3189 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC7 or EEM3: Cylinder1 Warning - Current Level Error

Issue description

The engine management system has detected an electrical current level error at the fuel injector solenoid valve for Cylinder 1. The current flowing to the injector is outside the expected parameters, which is typically caused by a temporary current peak, an open circuit, or a short circuit in the injector solenoid or its wiring harness.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the Cylinder 1 injector for rubbed-through insulation, chafing, shorts to ground, or broken wires

  2. Check the ECU connector pins and the Cylinder 1 injector connector for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins

  3. Perform a solenoid resistance test using a multimeter on the Cylinder 1 injector solenoid to check for an internal short or open circuit

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the engine's electrical system.

  2. Locate Cylinder 1 injector

Locate the Cylinder 1 fuel injector (typically the front-most cylinder on the engine block). Depending on the engine model, you may need to remove the valve cover to access the injector and internal harness.

  3. Disconnect electrical connector

Disconnect the electrical connector from the Cylinder 1 injector.

  4. Test and replace injector if faulty

Perform the resistance test on the injector terminals. If the injector fails the test, remove the high-pressure fuel lines and hold-down clamps, extract the faulty injector, and install a replacement.

  5. Inspect and repair wiring harness

If the injector tests fine, trace the wiring harness back to the Engine ECU. Repair or replace the wiring harness if any melted, broken, or shorted sections are found.

  6. Reconnect connections and reinstall valve cover

Reconnect all electrical connections securely. If the valve cover was removed, reinstall it using a new valve cover gasket.

  7. Clear fault code

Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the fault code.

  8. Verify repair

Run the engine to verify the code does not return, the engine bank is re-enabled, and full power is restored.
