ENG 3190

New Holland ENG 3190 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Cylinder 2 Warning - Fast Decay Error

Issue description

Electrical fault indicating that the current flowing through the fuel injector solenoid on cylinder 2 is dropping (decaying) faster than the control module expects. This typically points to a loose connection, a failing wiring harness, or an internal open circuit/resistance issue within the injector solenoid itself.

Applies to these machines

  • T8.275
  • T8.300
  • T8.390
  • T8.410
  • T9 Series
  • CR7090
  • CR8.90
  • Magnum 235
  • Magnum 250
  • Magnum 315
  • Magnum 340
  • Axial-Flow Combines
  • 1021F
  • 1121F

Check the cause

  1. Remove the valve cover to access the injector wiring harness.

  2. Inspect the electrical connector for the cylinder 2 injector. Ensure that the female pin in the wiring harness has a tight grip on the male pin of the injector.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness from the Engine ECU to the cylinder 2 injector for chafing, shorts, or breaks.

  4. Disconnect the wiring from the injector and use a multimeter (ohmmeter) to measure the resistance of the injector solenoid. The resistance should be less than 1 ohm and must not show an open circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Apply silicone sealant

If the diagnostic checks reveal a loose connection at the injector, you can apply a high-temp, oil-safe silicone sealant around the base of the male connector to minimize vibration between the harness and the injector body.

  2. Replace wiring harness

If the female pins in the harness are stretched or damaged, replace the under-valve-cover injector wiring harness.

  3. Replace injector

If the wiring is intact but the injector fails the resistance test (showing an open circuit or high resistance), the injector must be replaced.

  4. Install replacement injector

Remove the faulty cylinder 2 injector and install the replacement.

  5. Reset injector pre-load

Reset the injector pre-load according to the specific engine service manual specifications.

  6. Program IMA code

Program/code the new injector's IMA code into the Engine ECU if required by your specific engine management system.
