New Holland ENG 3195 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / ECM): Cylinder3 Warning - Application Dependent
Issue description
This fault code indicates an electrical circuit malfunction related to the fuel injector on Cylinder 3. The engine controller has detected a short circuit (either short-to-ground or short-to-battery) or an abnormal current draw/decay when attempting to energize the Cylinder 3 injector solenoid.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- New Holland T8.xxx Series
- New Holland CR9090
- New Holland CX8080 Elevation
- New Holland CX8090 Elevation Tier 4A
Check the cause
Inspect the engine wiring harness routing from the Engine ECU to the Cylinder 3 injector for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points against the engine block.
Disconnect the Cylinder 3 injector and inspect the electrical connector for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the Cylinder 3 injector solenoid and compare to a known good injector (zero or near-zero ohms indicates an internal short).
With the ECU and injector disconnected, test the Cylinder 3 injector wires for continuity to ground and continuity to power to rule out a harness short.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Turn off the ignition, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical arcing.
Access the Injector
Remove the engine valve cover or injector acoustic cover as necessary to access the Cylinder 3 fuel injector.
Address Wiring (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic tests revealed a short in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section of wire or splice in a new injector connector pigtail.
Replace the Injector (If Internally Shorted)
Thoroughly clean the area around the Cylinder 3 injector to prevent debris from entering the engine. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line from the fuel rail to the injector. Cap the rail and the line immediately. Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the faulty injector from the cylinder head. Clean the injector bore. Install the new injector, ensuring a new copper sealing washer and O-ring are used. Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to the OEM specification. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and torque to spec.
Reassembly and Programming
Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery. If required by the specific FPT engine model, use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to program the new injector's trim code (IQA code) into the Engine ECU.
Verification
Prime the fuel system, start the engine, and check for fuel leaks. Use the diagnostic tool to clear the ENG 3195 fault code and verify it does not return under load.
