New Holland ENG 3197 – Bosch EDC7 / EDC7UC31: Cylinder3 Warning - Current Level Error
Issue description
This code indicates that the engine control module has detected an abnormal electrical current level (such as a temporary current peak, short circuit, or impedance issue) on the circuit controlling the fuel injector for Cylinder 3.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- New Holland T8 series (T8.xxx)
- New Holland T6000 series
- New Holland CR9090
- New Holland CX8080 Elevation
- New Holland CX8090 Elevation
- New Holland wheel loaders
- New Holland telehandlers
Check the cause
Inspect the engine wiring harness between the EDC7UC31 ECU and the Cylinder 3 fuel injector for chafing, melted insulation, or bare wires causing a short to ground or short to battery voltage.
Disconnect the ECU injector connector and check Pin 6 and Pin 5, along with the injector connector, for corrosion, moisture, or loose terminals.
Measure the resistance of the Cylinder 3 injector solenoid and compare it to the specifications of a known good injector on the same engine.
Swap the Cylinder 3 injector with another cylinder (e.g., Cylinder 2) to see if the fault moves, isolating whether the issue is the injector or the wiring/ECU.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or break in the wiring harness between ECU Pins 6/5 and the injector, repair the damaged wire or replace the engine wiring harness section.
Injector Replacement
Clean the area around the Cylinder 3 injector to prevent debris from entering the engine. Remove the high-pressure fuel line connected to the Cylinder 3 injector. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the injector hold-down clamp and extract the injector. Install the new injector with a new copper sealing washer and O-rings. Torque the hold-down clamp and high-pressure lines to OEM specifications.
Reassembly
Reconnect the engine wiring harness to the electro-injector and the EDC7UC31 control unit.
System Bleed & Code Clearing
Reconnect the battery. Bleed the high-pressure fuel system if required by your specific engine manual. Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the stored ENG 3197 fault code and verify the repair.
