New Holland ENG 3199 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Cylinder4 Warning - Application Dependent

This code indicates a malfunction related to the fuel injector on Cylinder 4. It universally points to a failure of the Cylinder 4 injector to operate correctly within expected parameters.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and the Cylinder 4 injector for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Test the resistance of the Cylinder 4 injector coil using a multimeter (healthy EDC7 coil reads approx 0.56 to 0.57 Ohms).

   Run an active injector test (Cylinder Cutout) using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or compatible scanner to see if the ECU can communicate with and actuate the injector.

   Check for accompanying codes such as 3200 (Open Load) or 3201 (Current Level Error) on Cylinder 4 to confirm a hard electrical failure.

   Prep the Machine

   Turn off the battery disconnect switch to ensure the ECU is powered down. Clean the area around the valve cover to prevent dirt from entering the engine.

   Access the Injectors

   Remove the engine valve cover (or specific injector access panels, depending on the engine model) to access the fuel injectors.

   Disconnect Lines

   Carefully loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the fuel rail to the Cylinder 4 injector. Cap the rail and line to prevent contamination.

   Remove the Injector

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the Cylinder 4 injector. Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt and carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.

   Clean and Prep

   Clean the injector bore in the cylinder head. Ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed and not stuck in the bore.

   Fit a new copper sealing washer and O-ring to the new injector. Seat the injector into the bore and torque the hold-down clamp to the OEM specification.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line (torque to spec) and the electrical connector. Reinstall the valve cover with a new gasket.

   ECU Coding (If Applicable)

   Use the CNH EST diagnostic tool to input the new injector's calibration code (found on the top of the new injector) into the Engine ECU so it can adjust fueling tolerances.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect the battery, bleed the fuel system if necessary, and clear the ENG 3199 fault code from the ECU memory. Run the engine and verify there are no misfires or leaks.
